Jamdani is referred to Saris worn by Bangladeshi and people worn by people from the Indian Sub contienient.
A sari or saree is dress worn by women since 1800 BC in India. This dress is worn by women from India,Bangladesh,Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
The word sari comes from the Sanskirit work satika. This happens to be national dress of women of Bangladesh and India.

But also mention is found in book of of Periplus of the Erythraean Sea. James Taylor calls it Jamdani Muslin and the export of Dhakiya muslin to United Kingdom in 1787 was 3 Million Rupee.
This was the reason the British stopped weaving of Muslin but that is another story.
The word Jam dani means flower cloth ,is of Persian origin. It is a fabric ,as well as style of weaving.
Bengal was one unified state but it was divided into two by the British. The reason might have been the lucrative trade of Bengal. The production of muslin and Jamdani.

These saris are woven in Tangail district with broad borders and exclusive workmanship.
Shantipur Jamdani (West Bengal,India)
These are woven in Shantipur ,West Bengal. It looks as if they are in another country. Actually both Bangladesh and West Bengal were one known as Bengal.
Dhaniakhali Jamdani (West Bengal,India)
Dhaniakhali is a place in Hooghly ,where saris are produced along with embroidery work. This type have work have bold colors and contrasting borders.

Birth of Jamdani
Jamdani originated in Sonargaon and thanks to Muhammad bin Tughlaq. He brought weavers from Persia aalong with local weavers they came up with an artistic masterpiece sari, called Jamdani.
