      Intro to write this post Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy is well known politician in South East Asia, especially IBP region. I heard of him around 97 . At first as a person growing up in Middle East, it did confuse me. This was man was respected and held in high esteem. Those days Google wasn’t there and internet was unreachable.     Calcutta -The Capital of British Empire

    History Of Calcutta Calcutta was the capital of the British Empire. It was started in 1686 by Job Charnock. Initially the British settled in port at Hooghly (or Hugli). But due to disagreements with the Mughals and it was a river side ,Charnock sought a new site for the British . The villages : Sultanuti Kolkata Gobindapur  were bought from the Sabarna Ray Choudhury  family. This was how it was presented in history. But actually it was leased to the Charnock for for monthly rent of 1300 Rs.  The British paid rent until the Battle of Plassey :1657. Then Bengal was theirs.
